Work Description:
Built in 2001, this 38,365-seat, open-air stadium is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Riverwalk located on the Allegheny
River between the right and center field bleachers, is a popular place for the fans to enjoy great ballpark food and the
dramatic view of downtown Pittsburgh.
The concrete topping on the Riverwalk began to severely crack during the inaugural season and was allowing water to leak into the ballplayers private parking garage below. CPS was hired to survey the problem and recommend a solution.
Working around the clock while the Pirates were on a six-game road trip, our crews routed and sealed more than 12,000 lineal feet of cracks and sealed all floor-to-wall penetrations. After the deck was shotblasted clean, a traffic membrane was installed. The system consisted of a primer, an elastomeric base coat and two abrasive resistant top coats. The work was completed on-schedule without disrupting the daily activity of the stadium.
In 2006, the City of Pittsburgh hosted the All-Star Game and CPS was retained once again by the Pirates to freshen up the Riverwalk by re-applying a new topcoat.
